Meeting Sweet William and Visiting Miss Spiderwort

Last week, I met Sweet William (thanks Refreshing Spirit for identifying these), and it was such a pleasure! I’d also like to introduce all of you to them:

I really like these! I think I planted them a year ago. I bought a box of wildflower seeds (many varieties in there – maybe 10 or so) and put them around the irises and daffodils, but I didn’t think any of them came up. All I saw were weeds. I considered pulling them all up (still convinced they were weeds), but I never got to it. Turns out… they just had to mature! 😃 Aren’t they lovely? This is one time I’m glad I put something off. 😆 I hope to meet them again! ❤️

This is Miss Spiderwort! Or well… just Spiderwort. 🙂 They are infiltrating at this point. I may have to move some of them to a new location. Their flowers are pretty, but they are taking over the irises and lilies.

Hope you all are having a great Friday! ❤️

An Ode To Spring

An Ode To Spring

I look at all the flowers, eager to please
The attentive eyes.
They come in red, green, purple, and blue.
The pollen falls like snow from the trees
Covering everything in a yellowish hue.
And as I see, I cry
Tears of irritation, and I know I will sneeze.

I wrote this years ago and used it as a signature on a message board; I don’t know why I didn’t share it here before now. 😄 The rhyming pattern is a little different than most things I’ve written, but it was fun to do. 🙂 This is for all of the allergy sufferers out there.

The flowers in the top photo aren’t mine; they were at a local nursery, and I thought that they were so pretty! ❤ You can see more allergy season poetry and more flower photos from that outing last year here. (Yes this has been in my drafts since last year. XD)

This is the pollen index for my state at the beginning of the week. Sadly, it’s at 10.1 where I live. Crazy high. I’m coughing constantly, having drainage, sneezing, my throat is sore… it’s almost like having a cold without the feeling awful part. I think it’s actually trees, not flowers I’m allergic to. But I’m not 100% sure. Whatever it is, I hope the pollen stuff is gone soon. XD

If you want to see the pollen index for your state, here is the website I used: Pollen Index

Glowing Orange Lilies

I posted last week about my yellow lilies, but these orange ones actually opened first.

I didn’t expect any of my lilies to bloom until the beginning of June. Last year, they bloomed on the same day that my dog, Rosie, passed away. (The red ones may wait until June after all, but I was so happy to see the orange ones opening now!) Here are a few shots of them, from babies to blooming:

As you can see, it looks like they may have multiplied! 😁

Looks like the newbies are too young to bloom, but maybe they will next year. 😀

Now it’s big enough to be seen. 🙂

I little bigger…

BIGGER…

Here is the orange lilies’ spider guardian. 😂

Opened! 😀

I absolutely adore these flowers. 😍

And there we go! I hope you enjoyed the journey as much as I did, haha. 😊

Welcome Spring!

It is week 63 of 100 Word Wednesday, and here is the photo prompt and my response. 🙂 If you want to join in the fun, just click the link! 😉

Flowers bulbs in a basket, for sale
Will be in bloom before you know
Yes, those flowers in the pail
Soon will give a spectacular floral show

“Welcome” is painted on the wooden sign,
Winter says its heartfelt goodbye as it goes
Welcome Springtime, welcome sunshine
As Winter takes with it the snows

Buy and bring them to their new place
Set the sign by the garden gate
Plant the bulbs along the fence with grace
And then comes the hard part – the wait

Soon the bulbs shoot up flowers
Greeting the warmth of the sun
And the April Showers
Waiting is over, the show has begun!

First Day Of Spring – March 20th, 2018

Let’s celebrate the first day of Spring by marveling at the beauty of God’s creation! Especially the flowers…

Easter Lillies

My mom has these beautiful flowers planted all over our yard. And the fun thing is – different batches of flowers have different colors. The above one, if I remember correctly, was planted around a tree near our driveway.

This one was in the flower bed of my dad’s shop.

These were in the flower bed in front of our house.

These were outside the flower bed at my mom’s gazebo.

Peach Blossoms

This one is also known as a selfie fail. 😂 I had the camera on a tripod and put the camera on timer mode. I ended up having to get on a step-stool to get a proper selfie. And then once I was up there, I saw the bees…

If you look closely, you can see a bee in the center of this photo. Or the backside of one, anyway.

Pear Blossoms

Tulips

I found this beauty at Walmart for $1. Someone messed up and put three tulip bulbs in one pot; it was supposed to be $1 for one tulip. So I guess I got each tulip for 33.333333 cents? Haha. And each tulip is at a different stage of blooming. This is the first one. I expect the next two to bloom at the end of the month or in early April. I hope we have more time the next time we go back to Walmart because I plan to look and see if they made more mistakes… 😅

I love the texture of the petals.

Especially with the sunlight filtering through them.

And the inside is really awesome too.

Wildflowers

You’ve probably noticed that I have a fondness for wildflowers. So of course, I had to get photos of them too. 🙂

We have a few trees in our woods growing wild that have some of the most beautiful pink blossoms!

I don’t know what they are, but I really like them.

Wild violets!

I didn’t see the plant that the flower came from, but we have been getting high winds, so it could have blown in from anywhere. I’ve seen the vines that have these kinds of flowers, but the flowers on those aren’t opened yet.

This is also growing wild. At first, I thought it might be a dogwood, but no other dogwoods are blooming. The blooms remind me of my mom’s apple tree. I would compare them, but it hasn’t bloomed yet. It didn’t bloom last year either. We’re beginning to think it’s dead… but if this is a new apple tree that nature planted, I can’t wait to see if it produces apples this year. 🙂

Marching In

I stare in wonder
As January melts away
The New year is no longer new
Where oh where did all that time go?

I gaze dumbfounded
As February sends greetings
Seems like January had just arrived

The winter snows give way to
Red hearts and love stories to warm the soul

And then February says goodbye, and the green clovers march in.

Hey everyone! I hope that you’ve had a great March so far! 😀

I’m going to be taking a short blogging break this weekend – so I’ll see y’all again on Monday! ❤ Have a great weekend!

Nature’s Smile

During a walk through the woods last spring, I saw a bunch of gumballs and pine cones and thought it might be fun to play with them. So this happened:

Don’t worry – be happy! 😂 And then I thought maybe it might like a branch for a hat:

A little while later, I found two dogwood blooms that I accidentally knocked off the tree. (Oops!)

And I decided to completely redesign the whole thing…

My dad said that this was the result of having too much time on my hands, but it was really nice to unwind on my stroll and let my creative side come out. 🙂
