Chinese Charger Plate

I’m going to get creative with Cee’s Fun Photo Challenge. I would never eat off of this plate!

This is a Chinese Charger Plate that I bought about ten years ago at a yard sale for a whopping $2. I fell in love with it immediately. Ever since, it has been on display in my windowsill and I’ve been searching for more information about it, but haven’t found much. The only thing I have found is that it is that the scene depicted is most likely based upon The Red Mansion. However, all of the plates I have found online are round; mine is obviously not. Also, I can feel the paint; it looks to me like the outlines were stamped on, and someone painted the colors on top. I could be wrong about that though. Here are a few macro shots of the details:

This is the stamp on the bottom; unfortunately, I can’t make any of it out, so that method of identifying the plate didn’t go far. It looks like it says “25” in silver next to that, but that didn’t help in my efforts, haha. Maybe it was 25th in a series or something?

I still don’t know when my plate was made, or if it was hand painted or not. But I love the mystery! Maybe one day it will be solved; but until then, I will just look at it in wonder and enjoy it. 🙂
