Taking Over Me

I’ve been asleep for too long, in a dream
Dreaming of what it all means
Thought I knew but it was a haze
Wasn’t living, I was stumbling in a daze

Anger and hate taking over me
I craved the dying flesh, like a zombie
Desires misplaced, chased only sin
And it was eating me alive from within

My heart, like the night of the living dead
I need Someone to breathe life into me again
God, put life-giving flesh on these cadaverous bones
Bring the dawn of a new day and lead me home

Give me new life, only You are able
I’m done chasing fantasy and fable
Cleanse me of the darkness inside
And fill me with Your Light

I’m done running after rotting meat
I want to follow the One on the Mercy seat
Forgive me for listening to my deceived heart
Please God, give me a fresh new start

Follow Your Heart – or, Be True To Your Heart? (a reblog)

This was one of my first posts, way back in July of 2016. I can’t believe it has been over a year ago! 😲 How time flies! Anyway… I’ve seen a few references lately about Following Your Heart and decided to reblog. 🙂 Hope you enjoy! ♥

Following Him Beside Still Waters

This blog post was inspired by two awesome blog posts I’ve read recently: one at Refreshing Spirit and one at SaylwithPens, that talked about the heart, morals, and the dangers of following what we feel. Thanks to both of you! 🙂

This is a common thing we, especially in our tweens and teens, are told to do, and I really feel the need to rant about it: Follow Your Heart – or, Be True To Your Heart. (No, this isn’t about the song in Disney’s Mulan soundtrack. XD) The phrase sounds innocent enough. But lets be real. What are the heart’s intentions?

Jeremiah 17:9: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Yikes! That sounds bad. Perhaps we can’t know the heart, but we can see what it desires:

Matthew 15:19: For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts…

Follow Your Heart – or, Be True To Your Heart?

Why would I want to follow a heart that desires all of that?! But He can “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalms 51: 10) Isn’t He amazing?!

Proverbs 3:5: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Matthew 22:37: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

May we all have faith to trust in Him, to love Him, and – instead of our own selfish desires – follow Him with all our hearts! ♥
