Angel – Life Updates

This is the post I promised back in my It’s been a while post.

Back in 2004 – yes, 2004, I had her for over half of my life! – my dog brought me a present.

My dog brought me a kitten. We still don’t know where she came from for sure. This is when we first met! We had her in the back of our truck.

Here is the dog who brought me Angel. Her name was Grunt. (Don’t let five-year-old me name animals, okay? 😂) Not long after she brought me Angel, she got hit by a car. I was crushed. But Angel helped me get through that. I thank God for bringing me Angel. ❤

Getting back on track, my parents said no animals in the house – that lasted a whole three days. 😆 It started raining so we brought her inside, only until the rain was gone. And she never went back outside again. 🙂 Here, you can see her on dad’s back. One of her favorite places to hang out. 😂

She was officially an indoor kitty! And she made herself right at home. 🙂

After we found her, we no longer needed to put a star at the top of the Christmas tree – we had an Angel up there. 🙂

She had her crazy moments. Here we destroyed a paper sack and a newspaper. 😆

She had such patience – she put up with younger me. In this photo, she let me bury her with my plush animals. Can you find her?

She had favorite places to sleep. On top of this TV was one of those. 🙂

Mom cleaned out the cabinets and started reorganizing and afterward, we couldn’t find Angel. Here is where we found her. 😂 After this, Angel wasn’t allowed in the kitchen much unless we were present.

Mom washed the towels and put them back in the drawer and here is where we found Angel. 😂 She started opened drawers and cabinets and emptying everything – or sleeping on stuff we didn’t want her on. 😂 My parents bought baby locks for the drawers and cabinets after this.

If we couldn’t find her – she liked hanging out on top of doors. Just had to be careful when closing doors. Didn’t want to accidentally smash a paw or knock her off the door. 😂

One of my favorite photos of her. Makes me laugh every time. 😂 I caught her mid-yawn.

These two are two of my other favorite photos of her. 🙂 Those eyes!

I thought making this a collage of the two of us over the years might cut down on post length. 🙂

The avatar I’ve used for the past few months, this photo, is the last photo we took together before she died. It was New Years Day.  Yes, that is the same shirt I was wearing in the first photo of this post. I found it and thought it would be fun to have our photo taken together with it for nostalgic purposes. I didn’t realize it would be our last.

She will be missed. I treasure the memories we made together. ❤

Miss Monkey – Life Updates

This is one of the posts I mentioned I’d make in my It’s been a while post. I lost two cats, Miss Monkey in November from the wild cat population and the other in January, our 15 1/2 year old Angel. This post is for Miss Monkey. 🙂

Miss Monkey is the one on the left. You can see how scared she is. This photo was from before I tamed her. It took a few months before she trusted me. And then soon after, her brother Lion decided to trust me too. (The other cat here is Mama Kitty, you may remember her from the post, Mama Kitty – Life Updates.)

It was really hard to get photos of her because her favorite thing was to be held or be on a lap. 😅 But these are the best ones I saw.

She was also scared of the camera flash. Those eyes!

But then she quickly decided that she didn’t care as long as I was holding her. 😆 She started purring and she grabbed onto my shirt because she didn’t want me to put her down. ❤

Of course, it was during a holiday (Thanksgiving) when she got sick so the vets were closed. She died on Black Friday, which was kind of fitting since it was a dark day because of her death. She was 11 when she passed away.

The last thing she did before she died was use every ounce of strength she had and pull herself into my lap (I was sitting on the floor). My heart couldn’t take it. 😭

It was hard to look back through the photos at first because it still hurt so much, but time has dulled the pain a bit. 🙂 I miss her but I can look at these happy memories without bursting into tears now.  🙂

Hope you all have a lovely Monday! ❤

P.S.: As usual, I’m behind on responding to comments but I plan to do that this morning! 😀

P. P. S.: If you want to see the chickens and Jackie, I’ve been posting photos and videos the last two days on instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/peneloperoyalpayne/ You may also see one that heavily hints at another post I intend to write this week. 😉

Wonder Wednesdays: What attracts cats to catnip?

Answer: The catnip plant has oil by the name of”nepetalactone” in it.  When nepetalactone hit the olfactory receptors – er – the scent hits their noses, the oil stimulates receptors that sense chemicals called “pheromones.”

This causes a chemical reaction which gives a feline a feeling of euphoria or overwhelming glee.

In other words…

They get a safe high.

It looks like the effect that catnip has on cats is compared to a hallucinogen on humans. 😲 Thankfully, the effects don’t last too long.

Some cats have reactions such as growling, drooling, purring, or rolling around on the floor with the catnip like they lost all their senses. Others seem to pay no attention to it at all.

Research shows that only 50% to 75% of cats have a reaction to catnip. It also seems to be in the genes – if a cat who doesn’t react has kittens, it is likely that the kittens won’t react either.

Fun fact: The majority of cats in Australia don’t react to catnip.

Catnip also affects cats besides the housecats – tigers, leopards, lions and other wild cats.

And it repels bugs! Mosquitoes, termites, roaches, and flies hate it. The chemicals are stronger than DEET! Sadly, it loses it’s superpower when applied to the skin. But still, this makes me want to plant catnip all over the place. Arkansas has some serious mosquito problems.

And as for humans… oddly enough, when ingested as a tea, it can act like a sedative.

If you have followed along with Wonder Wednesdays long, you probably noticed that I usually use stock images for them. However, in this edition of Wonder Wednesday, all the photos are mine. These are all lovely cats I’ve had over the years. Some have passed away, and others I gave away as kittens.

The cats (from the top down) are Scout, Bullet, Rabbit, Sissy (the tabby), Skippy (the black one), Lion, and Tux. ❤

New Year, New Things

🎉 Happy New Year! 🎊

I hope that you have been enjoying the New Year so far! 😀 Mine has certainly been… interesting. 😅

Along with this new year, I have few new things to talk about.

First, I plan to change my theme soon for a refreshing new look. (My plan was for this to happen on New Years Day and then me getting sick derailed it… 😅 This is also the reason for the lack of posts since Christmas. Sorry, guys, I hope to get back on track soon. I’m much better but the congestion and coughing came after I thought I was better and uuugggghhhh. 😝) So consider this is a warning: if you see wonky things happening such as themes changing, things randomly disappearing, widgets moving from place to place – sorry for any confusion that may result from that. (Because of some cold medicine I took, I slept from 2AM until 6PM the next day for two days in a row; and now my body doesn’t understand when to sleep. Therefore, these changes will most likely happen in the middle of the night or very early morning in the days to come. Hopefully, not many people will notice the craziness that will ensue as I figure out how to set everything up… 😅)
Anyway, I plan to switch from the Booklite theme to the Hemingway Rewritten theme. Maybe. The main reason for the change is that I really like the sidebar menu and the Booklite theme doesn’t allow one. So I know that it will be a theme with a sidebar. And a header. I really like my header. 😊

Second, in the meantime, I went ahead and messed with the fonts and added new widgets at the bottom of the page now (if you are viewing in the reader, click here and scroll to view) – a new tag cloud widget and a Goodreads widget! I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I had a Goodreads account, and I finally figured out how to put it on my blog so that you all can see what I’m reading. I must warn you, they span many genres. I don’t stick to one kind. 😄 So you’ll see Christian fiction and nonfiction, Mysteries, Young Adult, and Children’s books. I know, I’m in my mid-twenties I should have outgrown Children’s books already, right? Nope, not for me. 😄 I’ve always loved these and I love writing for this genre too.

Third, I’m reading My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers (looks like you can get it daily free here: https://utmost.org/ if you want to read it too) and Streams in the Desert by Mrs. Charles E. Cowman this year, which I haven’t tried to do before – reading a yearly devotional, that is. I’ve read a month-long devotional once, but not a year-long one. And two devotionals at once, I know, what am I thinking? Haha. Read one in the morning and one at night. We’ll see if I succeed in keeping up with it. So far so good. 🙂 But this is only January 2nd and I’m spending a lot of time in bed because of this cold which means extra time to read… so that doesn’t mean much. 😂

Fourth, I want to thank my parents (who got the same cold… from me… I’m so sorry both of you, that is one Christmas present I never wanted to give you 😅 😅 😅) for being so patient with me while I’ve been sick. I want to give a shout-out to my mom. Like I said above, she got the same cold I did, and even though she did, she fed my cats when I couldn’t go outside because the cold air made my cough so much worse, and I appreciate it so much. And I’m sure that they do too. (I can’t wait until I can start feeding them myself again though – I miss spending time with and cuddling my furry babies! <3) I mean, take a look at some of them. (Pictured below: Catalina, Simone, Rabbit, Jay, Firecracker, Radar, Belle, and Dottie.)

😍❤😍❤😍❤😍❤😍❤😍

OKAY, OKAY. Maybe I won’t go outside and cuddle the last one. Philip the Opposum isn’t that cuddly. But he also isn’t camera shy if you give him food… 😂

Well, I managed to get completely sidetracked and off-topic as soon as I mentioned cats. Typical… 😂 Anyway, I’ll be back soon with a new theme (I hope) and a new poem that I’ve been working on! Have a great Tuesday! ❤

Smitten By Kittens

In response to the Tuesday Photo Challenge – Three, here are two photo with three cats in each one. 🙂

This photo was taken last year and includes Radar on the left, Firecracker in the back, and Belle on the right.

This photo has Tiger on the left, Rabbit in the middle, and Gabby on the right. It’s possible my mom took the bottom photo; I don’t remember. It has been nine years. 😅

The Random Facts…

  1. This is my second award. 😀
  2. I have 17 cats. (Hey, someone abandoned them, and they were homeless and hungry and I couldn’t let them starve. They are very awesome little creatures. 17 distinct personalities. I love them all to death. 🙂 )
  3. Growing up, I adored Nancy Drew. Books, old black and white movies, old TV series, and computer games. I still read // watch // play them sometimes for nostalgia’s sake, even though I’m an adult. (Along with other children’s books and young adult books. I’m a kid at heart. XD )
  4. My dream is to be a published author someday. I am participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) this November, and I hope to write the sequel to the Christian Dystopian Young Adult novel I wrote a first draft for last November, and maybe someday I’ll have finished the trilogy.
  5. I like to make stuff; especially the artsy and crafty type of things. For example, I made myself a charm bracelet last month: psalms-twenty-three-charm-bracelet I wonder why I chose Psalms Twenty Three? **glances at title of blog** XD
  6. My birthday is the day before Halloween. For too long, I let that define me.
  7. I think my favorite song presently is, “How Can I Keep From Singing?” by Audrey Assad. Or “Holy, Holy, Holy.” That was fantastic too. Or maybe, “Be Thou My Vision.” Or it could be, “It Is Well with My Soul.” Or perhaps, “New Every Morning” or, “Even Unto Death”? Haha, I can’t decide. She is so talented. A friend of mine gave me her “Inheritance” album, and I can’t stop listening to it – and singing along with it. She is absolutely amazing. Seriously, if you have a moment to sample her music, click the link, you won’t be disappointed. 🙂
