Angel – Life Updates

This is the post I promised back in my It’s been a while post.

Back in 2004 – yes, 2004, I had her for over half of my life! – my dog brought me a present.

My dog brought me a kitten. We still don’t know where she came from for sure. This is when we first met! We had her in the back of our truck.

Here is the dog who brought me Angel. Her name was Grunt. (Don’t let five-year-old me name animals, okay? πŸ˜‚) Not long after she brought me Angel, she got hit by a car. I was crushed. But Angel helped me get through that. I thank God for bringing me Angel. ❀

Getting back on track, my parents said no animals in the house – that lasted a whole three days. πŸ˜† It started raining so we brought her inside, only until the rain was gone. And she never went back outside again. πŸ™‚ Here, you can see her on dad’s back. One of her favorite places to hang out. πŸ˜‚

She was officially an indoor kitty! And she made herself right at home. πŸ™‚

After we found her, we no longer needed to put a star at the top of the Christmas tree – we had an Angel up there. πŸ™‚

She had her crazy moments. Here we destroyed a paper sack and a newspaper. πŸ˜†

She had such patience – she put up with younger me. In this photo, she let me bury her with my plush animals. Can you find her?

She had favorite places to sleep. On top of this TV was one of those. πŸ™‚

Mom cleaned out the cabinets and started reorganizing and afterward, we couldn’t find Angel. Here is where we found her. πŸ˜‚ After this, Angel wasn’t allowed in the kitchen much unless we were present.

Mom washed the towels and put them back in the drawer and here is where we found Angel. πŸ˜‚ She started opened drawers and cabinets and emptying everything – or sleeping on stuff we didn’t want her on. πŸ˜‚ My parents bought baby locks for the drawers and cabinets after this.

If we couldn’t find her – she liked hanging out on top of doors. Just had to be careful when closing doors. Didn’t want to accidentally smash a paw or knock her off the door. πŸ˜‚

One of my favorite photos of her. Makes me laugh every time. πŸ˜‚ I caught her mid-yawn.

These two are two of my other favorite photos of her. πŸ™‚ Those eyes!

I thought making this a collage of the two of us over the years might cut down on post length. πŸ™‚

The avatar I’ve used for the past few months, this photo, is the last photo we took together before she died. It was New Years Day.Β  Yes, that is the same shirt I was wearing in the first photo of this post. I found it and thought it would be fun to have our photo taken together with it for nostalgic purposes. I didn’t realize it would be our last.

She will be missed. I treasure the memories we made together. ❀

  1. So many good photos and good memories here! I was very surprised by the one of her on top of the door! And the angel on the tree! 😁 I had to turn the light up on my phone to find her in the stuffed animal gathering. And that’s hilarious that she opened drawers and cleared a space for herself (although I imagine your mom didn’t think so at the time)! I’m glad the child locks worked for you!
That’s sad that she moved on. How long ago was it? Just a few months?

When she first climbed onto the door, we were very surprised too. πŸ˜‚ We were looking all over the house for her, afraid we let her outside – and she was sitting up there watching us freak out. πŸ˜‚ I guess we were entertaining. Someone figured it out when they tried to close the door (that was the bathroom door). πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Mom wasn't thrilled but I thought it was hilarious too. πŸ˜‚ She didn't like anything where she was going to sleep. One time she knocked dad's bottle of mouthwash on the floor because she wanted to sleep on the bathroom counter-top… that was quite a mess. πŸ˜‚

Me too! It's weird to not have the child locks anymore. Mom took them off but I think it's only a matter of time before Jackie learns to do the same thing. πŸ˜‚

It was January 3rd. I couldn't bring myself to make this post at the time. I got physically sick for over a week after her passing. I took it hard. Wasn't a great way to start the new year. But I knew her time was coming for a while now. We thought we were going to lose her August of last year but the vet gave her some meds and she pulled through. I was so glad for the extra time. She was getting so feeble and weak, I know it was best for her to go on. Still didn't make it easy though.

      • It’s hilarious to think what she might have been thinking while she watched you all looking for her from her royal perch! πŸ˜‚
I understand your mom’s annoyance if the cat (ahem, Angel) was undoing her hard work. It’s one of those things that she probably looks back on now with a smile. 😊
Ohhh! Was the mouthwash in a glass bottle, then?
Yes, you get used to that resistance being a part of daily routine. I guess having them off gives your mom just a few extra minutes each day…? Isn’t Jackie a year old by now? How old was angel when she started doing that?
Wow, over a week. πŸ˜” That must have been rough.

        • It is hilarious to think about. πŸ˜‚

Oh yes, I get it too. And she does look back on those with a smile. πŸ™‚ She put up a post on Facebook within a day or two of Angel’s passing and she included some of the same photos I did here. Also looking back on all those times she was doing housework with Angel riding on her back. πŸ™‚ I wish I had photos of that.

No, it was in a plastic bottle. Somehow the childproof lid popped off on impact with the floor. πŸ˜‚

Yes it does! I still automatically try to undo the lock when getting anything though. πŸ˜‚

Yes, Jackie was a year old last October! πŸ™‚ Angel was about three years old when she figured out the cabinets. (I had to look at the date on the photo. πŸ˜‚) Jackie isn’t allowed in the bathroom and only in the kitchen with supervision so she hasn’t had as much opportunity to experiment like Angel did, but Jackie caught on really fast. She knows she can open the cabinet doors in my bathroom, so I’m probably going to put the locks on those soon. Only a matter of time before she discovers the kitchen cabinets.

My main issue lately with Jackie is she figured out she can pull the books out of the bookshelves… I don’t know how to stop that. πŸ˜‚ She emptied half of my Janet Oke collection out of the bookcase the other day… πŸ˜†

  2. So beautiful. I love animals but I don’t like them in my house because of the responsibilities that comes with them😁. I love how you tried to recreate the first picture not knowing it will be the last time you took picture with her😊

    • That’s why my parents didn’t want animals in the house too. πŸ™‚ Cat hair, scratching things, knocking things over, on top of the usual care. Jackie doesn’t shed like Angel did (Jackie is a shorthair and Angel was a longhair) but she makes up for it in other ways. πŸ˜‚

Thank you, I’m so glad we did that now too. πŸ™‚ ❀ I would have picked her up like the first photo but she was so feeble at that point I let her say on the counter where we had her heating pad. πŸ™‚

  3. Riding on her back? Like a papoose, or claws engaged?
Phew! Glad it wasn’t glass! Much easier to clean up that way! πŸ˜ƒ
Uh, oh. Yes, probably should get the locks on.
Maybe she doesn’t like Janet Oke…😁 or maybe she would be satisfied with that one cleared-off place in the bookcase and leave the other books alone?
