Treasure Tuesday 5/21/2019

Again, this is not recent – this was from the beginning of April. The allergies aren’t as bad and the poison ivy is gone, but it has been raining, so I haven’t been able to do as much metal detecting as I like. But I wanted to share because it wasn’t all tin foil and nails and other random junk! 😀

Stay tuned for next week when I share what I found at my great aunt’s house! 😀

I didn’t use the metal detector to find this. I didn’t get a before shot because I expected it to be broken since it was mostly buried with the exception of the handle. I went out that day to dig up the trash I saw that was washed up by the rain. (Apparently many years before my parents bought this property, people dumped their garbage in the woods. I remember one year when tilling a new garden spot, we were finding bed springs. That was fun…) However, lo and behold, it wasn’t junk:

It’s complete! Not even a scratch! It says “Corning Ware” on the bottom, along with the fact it was made in the USA. It’s old, but not too old because it also says it is microwave safe and that wasn’t popular until the 1970s. At first, I thought it was one of my mom’s set, but her set looks like this:

So it’s not from her set. We have no idea how it got buried in our backyard, but whatever the case, it’s beautiful and I like it!

And one of the last exciting things I found – a horseshoe! I’m fairly sure it came from a set of playing horseshoes because it has “Champs” stamped on it. And dad said it looked like his old set. XD He also told me I might find the stob out there. If I do, I guess I’ll practice my horseshoe throwing skills!

    • PS. I just did a quick search on the pattern and it appears to be Corning Ware Wildflower Orange Poppy. There are quite a few companion pieces on Ebay. But, who knows, you may have those out there where you found this one!

Those with the blue flowers, Corning Ware Cornflower Blue, made me smile. My grandma had those. 🙂

      • Thank you for doing the search! So cool!! 😍 Nice to know that the other pieces are on Ebay. If there are more out in the yard, I’d really wonder how they got there!

Aww. 😊 Glad they made you smile.

Oh wow! The bricks are awesome treasures! Sorry you found poison ivy and poison oak too. I found one of them as well. Glad the rash is finally gone! 😅

      Have a blessed day! 💖

  1. Beautiful corning ware. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that pattern before.
If I were to write a fiction story about how it got there, I’d say Christmas dinner was over, and Grandma set out the dish with scraps in it for her cats, but it smelled so delicious that some wild animal decided to hijack the meal, dragging it away dish and all.

  2. Quite unusual to find that corning ware dish and in such perfect shape. Metal detecting is fun. My husband and I have done that in several states in the U,S, and found several interesting items.

    • It sure was unexpected. 💙

Yes! I finally found a few things that weren’t tin foil. 😊

Oh how fun! 😁 If I may ask, what kinds of interesting items did you find on your travels? It sounds so fun to go to other states to metal detect. 😊

      • Found old square roofing nails from an old trading post in Arizona. Found a ring and several other small metal objects on the beaches of Florida. Found some old coins here in Arkansas. Was checking out an old chimney standing in the woods near Flagstaff when the rattle snakes began to sing their song – a den under the chimney. I left, but my husband hung around for awhile. Found old shovel heads and other pieces of garden tools. Nothing spectacular. It is fun to explore with our metal detector.
