A Golden Sunset And Other Nighttime Photography

These are photos that I hinted at last week that I was posting this week – photos of a sunset, taken over a 30 minute period of time. It’s so interesting to see how the colors changed!

The sunset started with beautiful golden colors!

When I backed off the zoom, it didn’t look as golden; but you can see the purples and pinks overhead.

I also love how the clouds were kind of layered on the sky.

This is an attempt to reflect the sunset off the mudhole. It kinda worked…? 😆

It was still very golden near the horizon.

And so pink and purple overhead!

But then, the pinks and purples overhead started to creep into the golden layers. It was so captivating!

And it happened so quickly. The pink and purple horizon only lasted what seemed like ten minutes. I didn’t have a watch out there with me, so I’m just guessing.

The pinks and purples started turning gray…

And then the sky just looked gray until the sunset was over. And this has been a visual storytelling of a sunset. 🙂

Also, because Cee’s challenge includes night-time photography this week, here are a couple of bonus photos that I took on different nights. These are among the first photos I took with my new camera back in September of 2017.

    Beautiful colours, an amazing palette, a splendid sky indeed 🙂

    I think sequential photography is a much underplayed opportunity. I enjoy seeing the before and after of an event and feel it enhances the main photo by adding narrative. I wonder if you’ve ever thought about animating with photographs…sequential shots such as these work really well as a short film? 🙂

        Indeed Empyrean’s Mirror is a unfathomably beautiful: at times She is beyond words and only images will do.

        If you should be tempted towards the ‘moving image’ using still photographs, I wish you all the luck in the world. Animation as a form of film-making offers tremendous scope for the creative mind. Who knows where such an endeavour may take your creativity and talent? 🙂

          • Easy to use software for creating moving images using photographs is widely available at affordable prices, if not free to download on certain sites. I wish you much fun and happiness if you indulge, and if not, please keep those delightful photographs you take coming as they are inspired and inspiring.

            We have a third consecutive day of sunshine here in Wales, UK, and I shall find chance to rest beneath those golden rays and soak up a little falling dew.

                  • Excellent idea Grace: a little research and a good idea of what you want to do with video/film/still photographs etc will undoubtedly serve you well, and possibly save you a few dollars. Best wishes, it could be the beginning of a whole new adventure in image creation.

                    Now live….then I shall go have a wee peek! 🙂

                    A little more sunshine this weekend but I sense a storm brewing at some point. Ah well, at least we had a summer (5 days of sunshine lol) this year.

                    Your busy wonderful week put my dull and uneventful week to shame. But for once I was grateful for some peace. I think it wise to rest before change comes to us all.

      My camera is a Canon PowerShot with a 50x zoom lens and 16.0 megapixels. I found it at Walmart, and for my birthday, my parents put money with what I had been saving so that I could buy it 🙂 It has been an amazing camera. ❤

      For these photos, I had to go into the camera settings to make it darker and make it slightly more vivid, to make the image the camera saw the same as I was seeing. 🙂 Otherwise, the image was very washed out. (Also, make sure the sun is below the horizon unless you have a sun filter – you don't want to ruin the camera!) So I'd say to play with the camera's settings until you get the image you want! And don't be afraid to take a bunch and experiment. With this sunset, I took nearly 100 photos; the ones in this post are only the best ones. I'm still experimenting; I've only had this camera (Canon PowerShot) since last September and I don't even know what all it can to yet. 😀

      I love the photos on your blog! The flowers are my favorite, such a dark pink. 🙂 And I love the angle on the chainlink fence – you have a great eye!
