It was just like any ordinary weekday. I went outside, did a few chores, and then went on to the mailbox to see if the mail delivery person left anything in there. Here is what I found:
Hopefully the mail delivery person didn’t leave that. π Most people would have panicked; but if you’ve seen other blog posts of mine, you know that my reaction was to run back to the house and grab my camera. I wanted to get a shot of him with his legs not all squashed up like that, so like any normal person would do (π), I found a stick and I poked him with it to make him move.
Ah, there we go. XD He was a very fast, spider. He almost rivaled a jumping spider. Even I jerked back when he moved at lightning speed, and I am not usually startled by spiders so much. But there was a split second when I thought he jumped on the small stick I was holding and was coming for my hand. π
And of course, I had to get a macro shot. The legs are really spiky like the stem of a rose. Really cool. I almost wanted to touch it to see if they are indeed spikes or if they are hairs. Almost. But I don’t think the spider would have appreciated that. π He looks so dangerous, but he probably isn’t. At least, hopefully he isn’t… especially since I was poking him with a stick… π
A couple of weeks later, I did the same routine and found this in the mailbox:
A moth! Isn’t that cool?
I wanted to see how close I could get before he flew away:
I didn’t want the mail delivery person to flip or accidentally hurt it, so at this point, I touched it so it would fly away. Here he is on the nearby tree he landed in:
He blends in fairly well, doesn’t he? And this concludes this episode of “Strange Things I’ve Found in the Mailbox.” Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s about time for the mail to be delivered; I think I’ll go check it… π
Eee! That spider makes my skin crawl just looking at the pictures! The moth is pretty cool! And I do like the fact that you were able to take such clear pictures of these insects! ππΎ

Haha, I know, right?! I usually like spiders but that one gave me goosebumps. π Thank you! π β€

Grace, there is no hope for you when it comes to bugs and snakes and frogs and such! Don’t touch spiders, they are just too dangerous!

Haha, nope, no hope at all. Especially when a bug prompt came out on Tuesday that I missed. There will be many more bugs in the near future… **laughs manically** π
Yeah, I probably wouldn’t do that – like you said, some spiders are too dangerous!

You must have been interested in bugs as a child. My mom when she was a teacher would take her kinds “bug hunting” for Science class. She would never hurt a bug…literally!

Oh yes, definitely! My mom used to bring home little books all about bugs for kids and I’d devour them. Sometimes in one day.
Aww, that is so cool! π I would have loved to have been in her class, haha!

Grace, you would have been her “Star Pupil!” She would have given you the “Bug of the Month” award time. The only thing she didn’t like was flies. I guess they carry so many diseases and things…

Aww, haha! π Oh my, what an honor that would have been!
Haha, I understand that. And if she detested mosquitoes, I’d understand that one too. π

You are so full of grace, Grace! π Come to think of it, she didn’t like pesky insects that flew of any kind…

I remember a story about my grandmother. She was a very nice but quiet and reserved lady. One day she was riding in the car as my mom drove. The windows were down and they were at a stop light, when a bee flew in. My poor grandmother nearly had a heart attack! She hated those little guys, and she was from Arkansas too…

Oh my… I’d almost have a heart attack too! π I like to see them on blooms because that means they are doing their job and I may get vegetables out of it, but as for being trapped in a car with one… yikes!
Haha! π

Yep, even as a “guy,” I’m not a fan of bees or wasps, etc. I was 30 years old before I was stung by a bee out by a swimming pool. It didn’t hurt as much as I thought a bee sting would, but you won’t see me trying to become a beekeeper anytime soon!…Lol…

Yikes! I’m glad you weren’t allergic; I know that some people are allergic to bee stings!
LOL, me either! π

I actually had a former family member who married a beekeeper. I can’t even imagine going to that job every day…
“They didn’t have no beekeepers in the wild west, Miss Grace. Why, if’en we saw them little rascals a flyin’ around, we’d just run and jump in the pond!” π

Oh wow! π³ I couldn’t imagine either!
LOL!!! π Then where did they get honey? (Or did they not get honey? Or did they try to raid a beehive and just get stung repeatedly for the honey? π) I’d be better off on land – at least maybe I could survive the bee stings. If I jumped in the pond I’d drown! π

Well now, Miss Grace, if’en I lived in those days, (sometimes I feel old enough to have lived back then,) I’d know if they had honey and how’d they got their paws on it! Now wait just a dad-burn minute. Are you a tellin’ me you don’t know how to swim?

Oh my… π
Yeah, I don’t know how to swim; I’m skeered of water. One excuse I’ve had as to why haven’t been baptized; I was afraid I’d drown. Silly, I know…

Oh my dear, have a little trust in the fact that God wouldn’t let you drown as you are doing one of the biggest things He wants you to do…be baptized into Christ!!!!! Besides, an experienced minister has done many baptisms. He will get you through it, Grace. Oh I pray you will be baptized if you feel it is right for you. Don’t let your fear of water hold you back from the most important thing you will do in this life…obey the Lord in baptism!

Yes, I know – now. π I trust Him and I know He won’t let me drown.
I really do want to; I hope it can be done sometime in the near future, I’m just not sure when because we have a lot going on. I very much want to be baptized. π

Grace, please…please make the time for it as soon as possible. Push something else back if you have to. I don’t want to sound “bossy,” but being baptized is soooo important!

Thank you so much for caring about me. π β€
Oh, i understand what you’re saying; it’s not just a time issue, it’s that I’m not sure how I’ll get to do it. At the moment, I have no way to go anywhere unless my parents drive me and since they never found a church that they liked around here, I don’t know where I’d go or if they would go if I found a place. Plus with my dad being sick, I feel weird asking…

I understand that you may feel “weird” asking your folks when your dad isn’t doing well. All I’m saying is that with something as important as church, you need to find ways to make it a priority in your life. With all due respect to your folks, I would hope that your mom and dad would see that this is important in your life…let your light so shine!
Any friends that you can call on for transportation help?

Oh, I understand that! At the moment, I’m not sure how that would be possible. But I’ll get there eventually. π
I hope so too! π
Haha, no… none live in my state, sadly.

The most exciting critter we get are wasps. After your pics I might open a little slower! Makes the trip to the box a little more exciting!

Wasps are exciting! Especially if they fly at you! π³ (I recently saw a wasp that managed to sting a spider that was HUGE). π LOL, me too. It does make it more exciting!
