When walking out to the garden, my mom almost stepped on this fellow:
Her reaction at first was, “SNAAAAAAAAKE,” but that was quickly followed by, “Oh never mind, it has legs.” 😂 She was quite relieved.
He was kind enough to let me get 20+ photos of him. Poor thing seemed to have lost its tail though. He seemed fine besides that. He was much faster than I expected. When he finally left, it was so fast that if I had blinked I would have missed it.
I’m glad that God brought him across my mom’s path so these photos could be taken! 🙂

Thank you! 🙂 ♥ Yes, I was brave, and got very close! I’m glad too! I wouldn’t get that close to a snake unless I was sure it was a non-poisonous variety. I got a close-up of a black rat snake a few weeks ago, and they are non-poisonous and a bit shy.

I received the pitter today. I ordered the wrong one. It’s for chery ro olive, so the plums don’t fit in. I search for for pitter from Amazon, found some plum pitter, one has a 4 minutes video demo. The person who did the demo said, it doesn’t do a clean job, it takes out the pit along with a chuck of plum. He then used a regular knife and did a better job. I think I just hydrate the whole plums with pits in them. Worry about eating and spiting the pits later!

I found a recipe for sun hydration, I may do that instead of do it in oven. Put them in boiling water for one and a half minutes, then put them in ice water right away (something to do with the skin) then put then on a screen (?) out in the sun. I don’t have any screen, have to think of something else!

Are we still talking about plums? Yes, I got some recipe for preserving, but need to put sugar and water an require cooking and put them in jars. I think I’ll stick with drying!

I follow one recipe of putting them in boiling water for 1 1.2 minutes, then in ice water. No it didn’t work. As soons as they were in hot water, the skin cracked and the plums get smooshy, so I just put them in the jar and eat it like that. Next year, will use better recipe!

You just love all of God’s little creatures, don’t you Grace! That tail may grow back, like with lizards. I remember catching a lizard by the tail once as a boy. He wriggled a bit, slipped his tail, and was off in the grass! I was amazed!!
I was told the tail would grow back…
