Cake For Two

It is week six of 100 Word Wednesday, and here is the photo and my response. If you want to participate, just click the link! 😉 This week is 107 words, but I don’t see a way to trim off seven words. 😂

At the restaurant, I order cake for two
On this Valentine’s Day as a present.
He’s late yet again, but that’s not new.
The cake arrives but he doesn’t.

I stick a fork in mine, trying to get a handle
On this dilemma, and pass the time by
Talking to inanimate objects. I tell the candle,
“You’re as bright as ever!” as I begin to cry.

He stood me up, the lout! But no, I hear a voice sing,
“Sorry I’m late! I had something to attend to.”
He sits and pulls out a sparkling diamond ring,
“Will you marry me?” he asks. I smile, “I do!”

  3. I have a soft spot for rhyming poetry and stories…and this is so sweet, with the surprise at the end 🙂 Cake always leads to happiness 😉 Thank you so much for writing with us this week and we look forward to what you’ll dazzle us with next! ❤

    • Oh goodness, no. Nooooooooooooo. XD That was purely from my imagination. I’m not married, never had a boyfriend, never been on a date. Maybe someday I will, but I’m not ready for it yet. 🙂 (I’m in my mid-twenties, but what’s the rush, right? 😉)

      • I’m sorry Grace. Now I remember reading about your never having been on a date or had a boyfriend from one of your award nominations before. “Dau…” Not that it would matter, but I just had a mental lapse there for a moment. Again, I’m sorry my friend.

        🙂

              • Aw, I’ll bet your dad is right…to a good degree. But I’d also think you would need one who challenges your thinking and actions a bit as well. If done in a constructive way, it can be good for the mind and the heart!

                🙂

                  • Hi Grace, hope you are doing well and not being bothered by all the storms rolling around out there!

As far as a relationship goes, a lot of love and understanding with a “twist” of differences…that makes for an interesting relationship!

                    • Hi Steve! 🙂 The storms weren’t too bad in our area, but I really feel for the poor people around Pocahontas. The levy broke up there, and everything was underwater. Last I heard, no one lost their lives, but I saw photos from there and it looked devastating.

                      😀 That sounds really great. 🙂 ♥

                    • Oh wow…That has to be devastating to those poor people! Can you imagine the loss of house and home and everything they have? How big is the town anyway? I’ll bet the photos show some really heartbreaking scenes.

                    • It was, and it was so sad! They had a mandatory evacuation before it broke, but still… no, I can’t imagine losing everything like that.

I wasn’t sure about the size of the town; Google says the population was 6,518, and that seems right.

I can’t view it, but I can see the first frame of this video and looks like it has photos of the damage in it, if you were curious: http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/breaking-levee-breaches-along-swollen-black-river-near-pocahontas-arkansas/70001570 It’s pretty bad; the Governor called in the National Guard.

                    • Wow, according to the report from your link, some places had up to 10 inches of rain! I don’t know if that was in one day or not, but out here where I live, we get 10-15 inches on average for the entire rain season! It’s no wonder the rivers were over running their banks. Yes, it is a very sad thing to lose a home like that! Tornadoes, floods…people in your area have a number of things to deal with!

                    • Yeah, it was a lot. I don’t remember if it was with that storm system or if they included the one before it…

Wow, really? Yikes, that really puts it in perspective. I’m not sure what the average rainfall here is.

Haha, yeah! I guess I’m used to the idea of potential bad weather since I’ve lived here all my life, but it’s still tragic when it actually happens like that.

                    • Yes it is, Grace. I just looked up the average annual rainfall for Little Rock, Arkansas and it is 50 inches a year they say! That’s more than 3 times our avg. annual rain. Wow…and the rural areas probably get even more than that. That is a lot of water! Yes it is sad when it comes in buckets and floods…

                    • Well, I lied. We don’t have 15″ of rain so far, we have almost 19″! Still, that’s a long way off of your annual totals…

                    • Well that 15-20″ of rain is just for the southern part of the state. Actually they get more rain up in the northern part. Calif. is one of the largest supplier of agricultural crops in the nation! They need a good bit of rain for that, plus they buy extra water from the states around us I believe…

                    • Well…here’s what Google says we grow…

“Crops include grapes, almonds, strawberries, oranges and walnuts. California produces almost all of the country’s almonds, apricots, dates, figs, kiwi fruit, nectarines, olives, pistachios, prunes, and walnuts. It leads in the production of avocados, grapes, lemons, melons, peaches, plums, and strawberries.”

                      So there you go… 🙂

                    • Yeah, a lot of good stuff in there. I think we do pretty well with apples and oranges too. But not as well as some other states. Of course Florida leads the nation for citrus fruits…

                    • Yum! 😀 That is really neat that your state grows so many things! Almost makes me want to live there (or Florida!) so I can grow more stuff! XD

I actually have a citrus tree. Arkansas doesn’t grow citrus to my knowledge… I planted a seed from a lemon, lime, or orange and it grew… now I don’t know what to do with it. 😂 I bring it in every winter and set it back outside during the summer. So far so good. XD

                    • Well if it is working you must be doing things the right way. I went to Google to see what crops Arkansas grows best and here’s what they said:

“This state’s most important crop is rice. Arkansas is the leading producer of rice in the United States, providing about 46% of the nation’s supply. Arkansas grows lots of soybeans and ranks 10th in the nation. Cotton, corn for grain, and wheat round out Arkansas’s most valuable five crops.”

With all that rain you get, I’ll bet rice grows well! 🙂

                    • That’s true. 😊

I knew we grew rice and soybeans but I didn’t realize it was that much! Wow! I remember passing cotton fields before and it was so cool. Lots of white! I didn’t know those were the five most valuable crops here. 😀

Warren, Arkansas produces a lot of tomatoes. They are having a tomato festival soon, and I wish I could go. XD The tomatoes look amazing. 😍

                    • Yes, cotton fields which are ready for harvest are beautiful aren’t they. And I’ll bet some of those tomatoes are almost as big as basketballs…Lol! You see, if you had your driver’s license maybe you could go to some of these things of interest…

                    • Very beautiful indeed! 😀

LOL! 😂 I have seen the Beefmaster variety get absolutely HUGE, but not that big.

So true! Warren is a long drive and I wouldn’t want to go by myself though. (I need friends to travel with and friends to eat tomatoes with! 😂)

                    • Well, you get your license and the use of the car and you’ll have more friends…believe me! One of the first steps to popularity is that license. And confidence comes with more successful drives. Pretty soon you’ll want to go all kinds of places! 🙂
