God is a God of Peace

God is a God of peace.

I remembered reading that in the Bible somewhere, so I researched where all “peace” was used in the Bible as a Bible study one day, and I thought I would share my findings here. 🙂

The amount of times that “God of peace” is referenced in the New Testament is almost overwhelming. Many are greetings, which is why it is written within the first four verses of the books in question. To save space, I’m not going to add them all to this post, but here are the references I found if you’d like to see for yourself: 1st Corinthians: 1:3, 2nd Corinthians 1:2, Galatians 1:3, Ephesians 1:2, Philippians 1:2, Colossians 1:2, 1st Thessalonians 1:1, 2nd Thessalonians 1:2, 1st Timothy 1:2, 2nd Timothy 1:2, Titus 1:4, Philemon 1:3, 2nd Peter 1:2, and 2nd John 1:3.

Here is the one I was looking for:

1st Corinthians 14:33: For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Knowing that God is a God of peace is great, but in my search I stumbled across this:

Philippians 4:7: And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Isn’t that amazing? He, full of peace, keeps our hearts and minds through Jesus! But how has He done this?

Colossians 1:19 & 20: For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

He made peace through the blood He shed on the cross! However, He isn’t just a God of peace…

Ephesians 2:13 – 18: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For He is our peace, Who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in His flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in Himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that He might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

He is our peace! Isn’t that an amazing thought? How incredible is this?! He tore down the walls so that we may directly speak with Him so that we may have peace.

1st Peter 5:6 & 7: Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time. Casting all your care upon Him; for He cares for you.

John 14:27: Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

He wants us to cast our troubles onto Him — He wants us to have this peace because He loves us! So there you have it: what started as a “where is that verse in the Bible?” turned into a long, joy-filled study in His Word. 🙂

Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ. (Galatians 1:3; but basically, almost all of the verses I mentioned above in the third paragraph too.)
